Best Rock Act 2009 and Top 50 Albums of 2009- Rolling Stone
"The perfect balance of bile fueled abandon and sandpapered psychedelia doesn't disappoint. Serving up a host of influences from Dead Kennedys to Mudhoney to John Lennon but never resorting to imitation...most importantly 'The Peaceful Atom is a Bomb' is an album, an old fashioned ride through complementary contrasts and well timed mood swings. It's great rock and roll. Pure and simple"
4/5-Rolling Stone
"The Peaceful Atom is a Bomb' is wall to wall with great tunes. Armed with boundless energy, killer hooks, singable choruses and variety up the wazoo, Regular John stamp themselves as one of the most exciting young bands on the face of the planet"
9/10-Blunt Magazine
This album is one of the most exciting debut rock albums in recent memory"
4/5 -Sydney Morning Herald
"This is pretty heavy shit. It’s not Australian rock like you know it. Mostly everything coming out of the scene over the last few years has had the same kind of polished, shiny, mass-consumable sound to it. Think Wolfmother, Silverchair and most definitely Powderfinger. Where Sydney outfit Regular John exceed their contemporaries is in exuding the same kind of harsh, excitable and at times jarring sound that helped cement their name on the inner city touring circuit"
- Brag Magazine
They blend a dangerously catchy pop melody with forceful rock punch...but it’s the amphetamine rush of Detroit circa 1968 blended with the fuzz-pop of Hard-Ons and the Oz punk attack of Radio Birdman and Celibate Rifles that truly defines the Regular John sound. Regular John have unleashed a truly kick-ass rock & roll album"
-Rave Magazine
'Regular John are an exhaustive band. By mid set, the band had expended more energy than the average supernova. But with a stream of adrenalin pumping through their veins, they surged on, sending the crowd even more into frenzy. Regular John are, without doubt, one of the most polished live bands I have ever seen. If it wasn’t for the rough and ready appearances of the lads onstage, it’d be pretty to watch"

In 2009, Regular John exploded on to the Australian music scene with the release of their debut album ‘The Peaceful Atom Is A Bomb’. Having already created a ground swell with fans on the Sydney circuit, it wasn’t long before the band caught the attention of the nation’s industry heavy weights. The album was triple J’s Feature Album on release, was listed in Rolling Stone’s Top 50 Albums of 2009, helped the band to the title of Rolling Stone’s Best Rock Act of 2009, and also saw producer Tim Powels nominated for an ARIA for Best Producer for his work on the album.
In early 2010, a series of serendipitous circumstances brought Regular John’s Ryan A. (guitar/vocals), Caleb Goman (bass/vocals) and Ryan McDonald (drums) into contact with guitarist Miles Devine. At the time, Devine was playing in Sydney three-piece, Spangled Mistress. His skilful playing and psychedelic tendencies soon brought Miles to the attention of Regular John’s three existing members, and it wasn’t long before he was invited to jam with the band. So instantaneous was the musical connection between the four that one would be forgiven for thinking there were greater powers at play here. The ‘Devine’ intervention resulted in a musical powerhouse that could not be ignored, and shortly after Miles officially joined the band.
With the line-up now solidified and the band stronger and more focused than ever, Regular John has its sights firmly set on ravaging 2011. In January, the band will take the stage at the 2011 Big Day Out in Sydney with new material from the upcoming album, after which they will enter lock-down mode as preparations for recording begin. The band is reluctant to reveal much about their new material, preferring to let the imaginations of inquiring minds run where they will.
So for those who are eager to find out what Regular John will do next, we suggest keep your eyes on the future. It’s there that you’ll see the band, making tomorrow sounds
