New Years Eve. 2010. Epic. I really don’t use the word epic, but frick it was epic.
I went to Madison, WI with my wife (yes I’m a girl and no I don’t swing that way) following me? It’s an inside joke son, she’s just my best friend in the world and takes care of me better than any man will. Anywho, she also does awesome photography, which is what she was doing tonight for this concert for Nonpoint, Edisun and Aranda. None of these bands have I ever seen before.
She has sung Nonpoint’s praises for years, made me make “What a Day” her ringback tone for my phone for when she called me, yes to that extent. I liked that song, but really never looked into them. Until that night really didn’t know what I was missing.
She, myself and a couple of other male persuasion friends got rooms at the hotel where the concert was and all I can say is I am oh so very glad those guys stayed in their room and not ours. So the bands started playing around 9ish, but we were drinking before then of course and wondering room to room, taking pictures and meeting people and having general NYE fun. The guys version of NYE fun…jumping on each other, stealing each others shoes, taking the sheets off each others beds, breaking the mirror in the room, breaking the room door and last but not least, breaking the drywall by tackling each other and slide tackling the wall.
After the popcorn events we finally got to see part of Edisun and Aranda, two very good bands and awesome people. But then came Nonpoint. To tell you the truth I was expecting them to be good because my wife has good taste, sure I am biased, but whatever.
BUT they rocked. I completely immersed myself in their music. They have been around for a long time and I feel cheated of time that I haven’t been listening to them the entire time.
I recorded a clip of one of the songs, where they are doing a rendition of Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean and everyone is comparing it to Chris Cornell. Now I love Chris Cornell, but I think Elias rocked it on his own, his voice has his own merit, it’s own grit, it’s own sexy. I started the clip, she ended the clip and the clip has gone viral and I couldn’t be happier. The feedback everyone has given on the video has been outstanding because it was a great version of the song and now I’m hooked on the band.
Afterward I got the opportunity to meet them all, as any of the fans did because that is who Nonpoint is. All the members made it known if you wanted something signed or to say hi to stick around, hell yeah!
So like normal I have pictures of me licking them…haven’t gotten around to posting those yet, but they were all teddy bears….teddy bears that could rock the shit off the roof.
Lick Ya Later….
