Ask the regular hard rock fan their opinion of Disturbed and they might say “meh”. They are one of those love them or hate them bands. Many reviews have said the same thing, the band has been generally pigeon holed into the nu-metal genre that is suppose to speak to a specific generation. However I think their music speaks to millions. It speaks to kids just finding them through their teen filled angst, and their parents that have already worked theirs out.
Their 5th album Asylum has the same magical mix as their other 4. This to some may bring the question. What the f*@!....
It may sound same-y, however this works for Chicago’s favorite sons. David’s throaty, screeching ya’s, to Dan’s ultra cord ripping solo’s, the boys still know how to rock. Starting with the title track,” Asylum”, the sound is hard not to recognize as Disturbed. You know Mike’s familiar tempo bass beat of the drums. With that they have lured you in. Radio friendly “Another Way to Die” brings the bands socially conscious views of what we are doing to our world to light the way they know how, by screaming in your face about it. Kudos to the band for taking on U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” and giving a gutsy version of the ballad and making it their own.
See Disturbed in concert and you can feel each member’s presence even from lawn seats. We might want to reach out to whoever writes Dave’s audience banter since it hasn’t changed since Sickness. But I am from the if it isn’t broke don’t fix it House of Blues. Our boys definitely aren’t broke, they don’t need fixing, and they are still doing what they do well. Yes brothers and sisters raise your horns….
