Heavy Metal Nation is a place for fans of heavy, interesting music to come and read, write, and comment on articles about heavy music. Benea ReachWith a name like Benea Reach I was not sure what to expect as far as genre goes, although it is probably predictable that they are in the metalcore/screamo pigeon-hole. That being said, I am not a musical bigot, so it’s not a problem for me.

The guitar work on this track is nice and crisp, with the main riff that runs throughout quite catchy, and the heavier crunch in the bridges is suitably heavy and satisfying.

One issue I have is that the lyrics are mixed too low in the production – they are already hard to concentrate on specifically because they are not clean vocals, so having them lower in the mix than the guitars does give a muddy quality to it.

The choral-style chanting over the verses is interesting too – like using voices as an instrument. Since it is not annoying and floats along without being intrusive on the track, it is a nice touch (nothing is worse than when someone tries to add superfluous shit that just interferes with the flow of the song or distracts you from the meat of a track).

Overall it’s a good track, nothing overly memorably, but I definitely would not be skipping it next time is swings around on the pod.
